A Continuous Data-Driven Framework for Bridging the University–Industry Gap Through Emerging Skill Detection

Abstract— Bridging the gap between industry and university is one of the major challenges facing both sides in recent years due to the rapid digital transformation and emerging technologies. Despite having several proposed works in this direction, most of these works concentrated on fixed comparisons and periodic surveys without continuous mechanisms to capture rapidly changing industry requirements. This work proposes a continuous data-driven framework that can analyze recent job posts and provides the current and emerging industrial needs in terms of skills, competences, and job roles. These results would be delivered to a dynamic interactive dashboard that allows universities to periodically update their curricula, learning outcomes, and other activities in accordance with industrial needs. Accreditation programs and individuals can benefit from the feedback as well. Experimental results showed high alignment between the extracted skills and current national skill reports. Our proposed framework outperformed baselines and captured emerging trends.
